Salmon fishing Scotland Pheasant Hunting in Perthshire, Scotland.

Salmon fishing Scotland Pheasant Hunting in Perthshire, Scotland.

I was picking up at Whitehouse and Borlands, Perthshire, Scotland to-day (31/10/2008)which is well on the way to Glenshee. As you can see from the pictures the weather has turned colder with snow on the hills.

The cold weather should be beneficial to the river as well. The river temperature should be coming down fast and help trigger off the spawning of salmon throughout the system.

The dogs all raring to go. This is Witchy, Tara, Porridge, Cassey and Tilly in Geordies van but what are they all looking at? Keep it clean!

Salmon fishing Scotland Buchanty Spout, Glenalmond, Perthshire, Scotland.

This is Buchanty spout on the Almond close to Glenalmond, Perthshire, Scotland. This is a great place to see autumn salmon ascending the river to go to their spawning grounds. Unfortunately when i visited there the water was too high to see the fish going up the fall. I did see several attempting but the force of water pushed them back down.

The river was too high to see the salmon going up the spout. Any that attempted the fall were pushed back by the force of water. I did see around 7 attempting the leap in about 5 minutes.

Salmon fishing Scotland Spring Salmon Fishing on the Tay, Perthshire, Scotland 2009.

Salmon fishing Scotland Spring Salmon Fishing on the Tay, Perthshire, Scotland 2009.

The Autumn salmon fishing is over on the Tay, Perthshire, Scotland for another year and we can look ahead to the Spring of 2009.
This years spring was much improved with our beats boasting the first to 50 spring salmon landed. Over 70% of these spring salmon were returned.
We have good availability on our Pitlochrie and Catholes beats for the Spring and we will be Syndicating Benchil for a day a week throughout the spring until the end of April. This year Benchil will be fished on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The Syndicate for a day in the Spring would cost £950 for 6 rods for 15 days fishing and would include a Ghillie and boat.

We are also planning to lease Catholes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and let it on a syndicate basis as well. The cost would be £1800 for 15 days fishing for 6 rods until the end of April. That works out at £20 per rod per day throughout the spring. This would include 2 Ghillies and 2 boats. This past spring season we caught 33 salmon until the end of April on the Catholes. If you are interested in this please contact me.

Salmon Fishing Scotland Red Deer Stalking at Invercauld, Braemar by Balmoral, Aberdeenshire Scotland.

Salmon Fishing Scotland Red Deer Stalking at Invercauld, Braemar by Balmoral, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

This was my first day off from the fishing as the season ended on the river Tay on Wednesday 15th October 2008. I went stalking to Invercauld estate at Braemar near Balmoral in Aberdeenshire, Scotland courtesy of Brian and Kath Giles. What a day it was.

It was not long before we saw our first Stag. This stag was on it's own. You can see it's antlers just over the grass in the middle of the picture. The Stalker was not interested in this one.

The scenery was breath taking all day. There was a stiff breeze but the sun was out and it was ideal.

This was the stalker Michael leading us round the hill.

I have only been stalking once before which was on Rannoch in Perthshire, Scotland. I did not fire a shot but enjoyed it.

By this time we were stalking a good stag. We had to walk away from it and go round the hill to come at it in a different angle and also take account of the wind direction.

The excitement and tension for me was building. Could i make the shot? Eventually i was crawling into make a shot. The stag we were stalking was not being cooperative and it was getting fairly nerve racking when another stag appeared above us. We had to lie still as it would see us with any movement. The stag had to come down of the sky line to make the shot safe. It did and the stalker told me to make the shot.

Success. A good clean shot to my relief and i had bagged the stag.

Traditionally you put the stags blood on the face to say you have been blooded and celebrate your first Stag.

The stalking at Invercauld is still very traditional hence the use of ponies to transport the stags back down the hill.

This was a truly memorable day for me. It was an experience that i will remember for the rest of my days. Thank you very much Brain and Kath. I hope the end of season party went fine and you did not go on to many trips round the Scottish highlands and Islands!
